In August, the National Energy Balance 2024 was presented, a statistical tool that Uruguay has been publishing since 1965. The BEN summarises the country’s energy production, energy conversion and energy consumption and is an important basis for public policy-making. The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Fernanda Cardona, emphasised at the ceremony that the BEN is a reference for decision-making and reflects the importance of consensus and strategic planning for the second energy transition: the decarbonisation of the energy matrix with a focus on industry and transport. This report provides an overview of some of the key findings of the new BEN.
